Dammam 15/03/07: Sama Airline celebrated its inaugural flight yesterday in the skies of the Eastern Province. The flight took place on Wednesday, March 14 from King Fahad International Airport in Dammam.

Initially, Sama will operate to five main destinations (Dammam, Riyadh, Jeddah, Medina and Gizan) on a schedule of 32 flights a week. Sama currently holds a fleet of three Boeing 737 aircraft, each with a capacity of 148 passengers.

Under the patronage of His Highness Prince Jalawi Bin Abdul-Aziz Bin Musa’ed, Deputy Governor of the Eastern Province, Sama hosted a launch party attended by HE Eng. Abdullah Al-Ruhaimi, President of the General Authority of Civil Aviation, Eng. Khalid Al-
Mezaal, General Manager of King Fahad International Airport (Dammam), high ranking officials of the Eastern Region and Saudi Arabian General authority of Civil Aviation, as well as a number of businessmen and media representatives.

His Royal Highness Prince Bandar Bin Khalid Al Faisal, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sama, announced the official operation of Sama flights from Dammam in a speech delivered for the occasion.

“We are thankful and grateful to the Custodian of The Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah Bin Abdul-Aziz and his Crown Prince, the Deputy Premier and General Inspector Prince Sultan Bin Abdul-Aziz for facilitating investment procedures to the extent that enables the private sector to invest in aviation activities. We are thankful for their support to Saudi investors,
citizens and subsequently the Saudi economy,” Prince Bandar Al Faisal mentioned in his speech.

Prince Bandar Bin Khalid Al Faisal further extended his thanks to His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed Bin Fahad, Governor of the Eastern Province and his deputy Prince Jalawi Bin Abdul-Aziz Bin Musa’ed, Eng. Abdullah Al-Ruhaimi, General Authority of Civil Aviation President and Engineer Khalid Al Mezaal, General Manager of King Fahad International Airport.

His Royal Highness Prince Bandar Al Faisal spoke of his appreciation for their efforts to reach the point where private aviation would take to the skies of Saudi Arabia.

Prince Bandar Bin Khalid Al Faisal illustrated a social component to Sama company strategy saying: “We are working hard to provide an excellent service with value pricing to be affordable to all travelers. Meanwhile, we are streamlining the reservation, departure and arrival procedures to bring them in line with the company slogan ‘Simply Fly’. We believe that facilitating travel is a way to facilitate life for citizens and residents of Saudi Arabia.”

To further deepen the concept of Simply Fly, Sama added Qurayat as a new destination to its flights schedule and added a fourth aircraft to the fleet, in response to numerous requests of residents in the Northern Province.

It further opened a new retail center on King Fahad Road between Dammam and Khobar.

To facilitate traveling procedures, Sama announced a new reservation and payment program enables travelers to book a seat and pay through ATM or bank tellers. It is an additional fourth way of reservation beside website reservation, Sama selling centers and travel agents around the country.

Prince Bandar Bin Khalid Al Faisal invited His Highness Prince Jalawi Bin Abdul-Aziz Bin Musa’ed, Engineer Khalid al Mezaal and some additional guests to accompany him on a tour of one of the Sama aircraft. They set off on a brief flight over the Eastern Region. Deputy Governor of the Eastern Province Prince Jalawi admired the interior design and fittings of the aircraft, and expressed his best wishes to the company.

Sama Airline was licensed to operate domestic flights from Dammam by the Saudi General Authority of Civil Aviation in December 2006. Sama plans to increase the fleet to 8 aircraft by the end of 2007, and to 35 aircraft within the next five years.
