Peninsula music specialist Dr. Urkevich lectures, teaches, does
research and consulting work on music of the Arabian Peninsula. She lived and
undertook research in Saudi Arabia for over three years and has written articles on Saudi
Music and musicians, such as Mohammed Abdu. In addition, she has interviewed and
recorded "sha'bi" groups of Qatar, Bahrain, and the United Arab Emirates.
She is currently a senior Fulbright scholar in Kuwait, investigating the traditions
of the sea (baher) ,city (medinah), and desert (badu).
